Section 3. Read the passage and choose the best answer A, B, C or D for each question.

Music is an important part of community life in many places. It can mark a celebration, tell a story or bring different generations together. In Viet Nam, for example, people enjoy a wide range of musical traditions as well as modern songs. Young listeners may discover older melodies through their families, school activities or performances in their local communities.

At one secondary school, a group of students recently started a project called “Songs Across Generations”. The members interviewed older family members about songs they remembered from childhood. They then chose several songs and invited the older people to teach them the melodies. At first, some students found the unfamiliar words difficult, but regular practice helped them understand the stories behind the songs.

The project ended with a small concert at the school. Students introduced each song before performing it, and family members joined the audience. For many students, the most valuable part was not simply learning to sing. They also learned to listen carefully to older people and ask questions about their experiences. The adults, in turn, were pleased to see the students take an interest in the music they loved.

The project did not suggest that traditional music should replace modern music. Instead, it showed that different kinds of music can exist together. By exploring both old and new songs, young people can enjoy music while learning more about their communities. Other schools could adapt the idea by recording interviews, organising workshops or inviting local musicians to share their knowledge.

Câu 8. What is the passage mainly about?

A. A school project that connects generations through music.

B. A competition for professional musicians.

C. The invention of modern musical instruments.

D. The reasons students should avoid modern songs.

Câu 9. What did the students do before choosing the songs?

A. They travelled to different countries.

B. They interviewed older family members.

C. They wrote songs for a television show.

D. They sold tickets for a large festival.

Câu 10. The word “They” in the second paragraph refers to ______.

A. older family members

B. songs

C. student project members

D. local musicians

Câu 11. The word “valuable” in the third paragraph is closest in meaning to ______.

A. costly

B. useful and important

C. difficult to remember

D. surprising and unusual

Câu 12. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a possible activity for other schools?

A. Recording interviews.

B. Organising workshops.

C. Inviting local musicians.

D. Building a professional recording studio.

Câu 13. What can be inferred from the passage?

A. Music projects can help students learn about people's experiences.

B. All students prefer traditional songs to modern songs.

C. Older people were unwilling to take part in the project.

D. A school concert must be expensive to be successful.

Listening 1. Music and a school event

Linh: Hi, Minh. Have you seen the poster for our school's music evening?

Minh: Yes. It's next Friday, isn't it? I heard that the money from ticket sales will help children at the local hospital.

Linh: That's right. I'm thinking of playing the piano. I've practised for years, but I've never played in front of the whole school.

Minh: You play really well. Are you worried about the performance?

Linh: A little. I'm excited to be on stage, but I still feel nervous when I think about the audience. What about you?

Minh: I'd like to sing. Music has given me a lot of joy, and I hope I can use it to help the children, too.

Linh: Why don't we perform together? I could play while you sing.

Minh: Great idea! My music teacher suggested a song about friendship. It isn't too difficult, and the words are meaningful.

Linh: I know that song. Shall we practise after school on Tuesday?

Minh: Yes. Let's meet in the music room at four. We can ask our teacher to listen and give us some advice.

Listening 2. A school environmental project

Good morning, everyone. This month, our school is starting a project called Green Friday. Its main aim is to reduce the waste we produce at school. We don't need to buy expensive equipment or make big changes all at once. Instead, we can begin with a few simple habits.

First, please put used paper in the boxes near your classroom doors. The environmental club will collect the paper every Friday and send it for recycling. Remember not to put food or plastic cups in these boxes.

Second, bring a reusable lunch box if you buy food at the canteen. This can reduce the amount of disposable packaging we throw away after lunch. You can also bring a reusable bottle and fill it with drinking water at school.

Finally, save electricity. If you are the last person to leave an empty classroom, check the lights and fans and turn them off. Each action may seem small, but when hundreds of students work together, the result can be much greater. Let's make our school cleaner and greener, one Friday at a time.
