Steve Jobs, born in 1955 in San Francisco, California, is universally recognized as one of the most visionary innovators in the history of modern technology. Put up for adoption by his biological parents, Jobs was raised by Paul and Clara Jobs, who encouraged his early fascination with electronics. After graduating from high school, Jobs enrolled at Reed College, but he chose to drop out after only one semester because of financial burdens. Nevertheless, he continued auditing creative classes that sparked his curiosity, including a calligraphy course that later influenced the elegant typography of the first Macintosh computer.
In 1976, Jobs and his brilliant friend Steve Wozniak founded Apple Computer in the garage of Jobs's family home. Their goal was to make computers small and accessible enough for ordinary consumers to use in their offices or homes. The introduction of the Apple II and subsequent Macintosh models revolutionized personal computing. However, internal conflicts led to his resignation from the company in 1985. Instead of giving up, Jobs founded NeXT, a computer platform development company, and purchased the computer graphics division that later became Pixar Animation Studios. Pixar produced Toy Story, the world's first full-length computer-animated film, which was an immense blockbuster and won global acclaim.
[I] In 1997, Apple acquired NeXT, marking the triumphant return of Jobs as the company's chief executive officer. [II] Under his decisive leadership, Apple was rescued from near bankruptcy and entered a golden era of innovation. [III] Products like the iMac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad completely reshaped the entertainment, music, and mobile telecommunications industries. [IV] Jobs was widely celebrated not only for his technical brilliance but also for his insistence on seamless integration between aesthetic design and powerful performance.
Despite fighting pancreatic cancer for several years, Jobs remained deeply committed to his work until his final days. When he passed away in October 2011, millions of people worldwide mourned the loss of a true pioneer whose legacy continues to inspire innovators across the globe.

In our rapidly globalizing world, cultural diversity has become an intrinsic characteristic of modern urban life. From major metropolises like London and New York to bustling Southeast Asian cities, people of diverse ethnicities and beliefs live side by side. This cultural richness is celebrated through international music festivals, varied cuisines, and cross-cultural collaborations. However, encountering a new culture is not always a painless journey. Many travelers, immigrants, and exchange students experience what psychologists term "culture shock" – a feeling of disorientation, confusion, and anxiety when immersed in an unfamiliar social environment.
Culture shock typically unfolds in distinct phases. The initial phase is often called the "honeymoon stage," during which individuals feel captivated and enthusiastic about exotic foods, distinctive architecture, and interesting customs. Nevertheless, as daily realities set in, the "frustration stage" emerges. Simple tasks like opening a bank account, ordering a meal, or understanding non-verbal body language can turn into stressful encounters due to language barriers and unfamiliar social etiquette. In some societies, tipping at a restaurant is regarded as a basic requirement, whereas in others, it may be perceived as an offensive gesture. Minor misunderstandings can lead individuals to feel irritated and isolated.
[I] Fortunately, culture shock is rarely a permanent affliction. [II] Most people gradually progress to the "adjustment stage" by keeping an open mind and actively familiarizing themselves with local conventions. [III] They begin to realize that cultural differences are not signs of inferiority or superiority, but simply alternative ways of viewing and navigating reality. [IV] Reaching this level of cultural empathy not only enriches personal growth but also fosters mutual respect, helping individuals become true global citizens who can appreciate both their own cultural identity and that of others.
