PHẦN IV. ĐỌC HIỂU (3,5 điểm)

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions.

Marie Curie was born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1867. At that time, women in Poland were not allowed to study at university, so she saved money for years and travelled to Paris to study physics and chemistry at the Sorbonne. She lived in a small, cold room and often had very little to eat, but she never gave up her dream.

In Paris she met Pierre Curie, a scientist who shared her passion for research. Together they studied radioactivity, a word that Marie herself invented. In 1898 they discovered two new elements, polonium and radium. Four years later, the couple received the Nobel Prize in Physics for their work.

After Pierre died in a car accident in 1906, Marie continued their research alone. She became the first woman professor at the Sorbonne and, in 1911, she won a second Nobel Prize, this time in Chemistry. She remains the only person to have won Nobel Prizes in two different sciences.

During the First World War, she used her knowledge to help wounded soldiers, driving mobile X-ray units to the front. She worked so hard that her health was seriously damaged. Marie Curie died in 1934.

Her life story is inspiring because it shows that hard work, curiosity and determination can overcome social barriers. She once said, "Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood."
