TÓM TẮT LÝ THUYẾT TRỌNG TÂM

1. Phân biệt tính từ/trạng từ ngắn và dài (Short vs. Long Adj/Adv)

- Tính từ/trạng từ ngắn: Có 1 âm tiết (tall, fast, hot, cold...); hoặc 2 âm tiết nhưng tận cùng bằng -y, -le, -ow, -er, -et (happy, simple, narrow, clever, quiet...).
- Tính từ/trạng từ dài: Có từ 2 âm tiết trở lên (modern, peaceful, difficult, fluent...) và hầu hết các trạng từ có đuôi -ly (quickly, beautifully, fluently...).

2. So sánh hơn (Comparative)

- Dùng để so sánh giữa hai đối tượng hoặc nhóm đối tượng.
- Tính từ/trạng từ ngắn:
S1 + V + [Adj/Adv + er] + than + S2
Ví dụ: Nam is taller than his brother. / He runs faster than me.
- Tính từ/trạng từ dài:
S1 + V + more + [Adj/Adv] + than + S2
Ví dụ: Living in the countryside is more peaceful than living in a city.
- Nhấn mạnh mức độ: Thêm much, far, a lot trước so sánh hơn (much more difficult, far better...).

3. So sánh nhất (Superlative)

- Dùng để so sánh một đối tượng với toàn bộ tập thể từ 3 đối tượng trở lên (thường đi kèm in the world, of the three, of all...).
- Tính từ/trạng từ ngắn:
S + V + the + [Adj/Adv + est] + (N) + (in/of...)
Ví dụ: Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world.
- Tính từ/trạng từ dài:
S + V + the most + [Adj/Adv] + (N) + (in/of...)
Ví dụ: Linda is the most suitable candidate for this position.

4. Bảng tính từ và trạng từ bất quy tắc đặc biệt

Từ gốc (Positive)	So sánh hơn (Comparative)	So sánh nhất (Superlative)

far	farther (khoảng cách) / further (thời gian, mức độ)	the farthest / the furthest

5. Một số quy tắc chính tả khi thêm đuôi "-er" và "-est"

- Tận cùng là -e: chỉ thêm -r / -st (large $\rightarrow$ larger $\rightarrow$ the largest).
- Tận cùng là 1 nguyên âm + 1 phụ âm: gấp đôi phụ âm cuối (hot $\rightarrow$ hotter $\rightarrow$ the hottest, big $\rightarrow$ bigger $\rightarrow$ the biggest).
- Tận cùng là phụ âm + -y: đổi -y thành -i rồi thêm -er / -est (heavy $\rightarrow$ heavier $\rightarrow$ the heaviest, happy $\rightarrow$ happier $\rightarrow$ the happiest).
