PASSAGE 1 – Questions 1 to 10
Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions.
In modern education, helping students cultivate essential life skills has become just as crucial as academic achievement. Recently, when academic stress began to negatively affect student well-being, the school principal of Greenfield High School decided to take action rather than simply ignore the problem. Instead of asking students merely to memorise theoretical concepts and formulas, the school has altered its curriculum to meet the needs of young learners in an ever-changing world. The goal is to build an environment where pupils feel supported, develop their cognitive ability, and gradually become more proactive in their daily studies.
Educators at the school admit that traditional rote learning carries a serious consequence: it prevents teenagers from developing critical thinking and self-regulation. To solve this, teachers have begun to organize diverse workshops and extracurricular clubs. In these workshops, students are taught how to evaluate information objectively and make decisions based on logical reasoning. Furthermore, when students are encouraged to work on autonomous projects, they learn how to take advantage of digital resources effectively and become truly independent learners.
Nevertheless, the rapid transformation has also raised concern among some parents who fear that academic standards might decline. In response, school administrators assured families that rigorous measures are in place to protect mental health while steadily continuing to increase overall academic performance. By creating a compassionate atmosphere where students can remain motivated despite setbacks, teachers help them be confident in their talents and discover practical methods to succeed in both examinations and future careers.

PASSAGE 2 – Questions 11 to 20
Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions.
Throughout history, human societies have debated the optimal economic and political models to promote human prosperity. Two prominent paradigms that have shaped modern governance are capitalism and socialism. Under capitalism, individuals and private enterprises own the means of production, with market mechanisms dictating prices and investments. Proponents argue that this system fosters competition, rewards innovation, and incentivizes individuals to strive for excellence. In contrast, socialism is grounded in the philosophy that major resources and industries should be collectively owned or regulated by the community to ensure equitable distribution of wealth and eliminate class exploitation.
During the twentieth century, several nations experienced turbulent transitions when attempting to implement rigid economic plans. A prominent politician at that time implemented radical centralized controls that inadvertently caused a severe economic breakdown. Mismanaged agricultural policies led to an acute shortage of staple food, raw materials, and energy. Families were forced to endure extreme financial and physical hardship as everyday consumer goods vanished from grocery shelves.
Historical evidence continues to demonstrate that neither unfettered market forces nor excessive state monopolies can successfully tackle all socio-economic imbalances. Consequently, many contemporary nations adopt mixed economic systems. By combining free-market dynamism with robust social welfare nets, governments aim to protect vulnerable citizens, improve living standards, and build resilient economies capable of enduring global financial crises.
